Peter Köhler was born in 1971 in Stockholm and educated at the Royal Institute of Art. He has created numerous public commissions, and has continuously exhibited in galleries and museums around Sweden, Europe and the United States. In Stockholm he works with Galleri Magnus Karlsson.
Evoking saga, myth, and a deeply subjective sentiment, Peter Köhler’s art is immersed in folklore, yet rich in contemporary awareness. His work freely crosses the line between abstraction and his own unique figuration. Presenting observed phenomena through a filter of his own sensibilities, it infuses ordinary subjects with a vigor that transmutes them into phantasmagoria revealing alternate realities existing beneath the surface appearance of things.
Peter’s work has appeared in Dream Divination Plants by Corinne Boyer, and will be featured in her new book The Witch’s Cabinet, to appear in Spring 2021 from Three Hands Press.
