A Succubus Is Constrained by Buckthorn

$40.00

European magic features a number of plants which, by virtue of the the sacred powers accorded them, are used to subdue evil spirits. Among them is Buckthorn (Rhamnus spp.), a tree or shrub known to folk medicine for its violently purgative properties. Miller's evocative image depicts a succubus, a nocturnal spirit of lasciviousness, entangled in a thicket of Buckthorn. It is one of twelve original pen and ink drawings commissioned for Corinne Boyer's latest book Be Banished, Prince of Darkness: Plants Used to Keep the Devil and Demons at Bay in Early Modern Europe.

Measuring 12.25" high by 9.5" wide, the image is printed on 270 gsm mint green virgin fibre and is suitable for framing.

Limited to 100 copies signed and numbered by the artist.

$40.00 each, plus postage.
