This book is a véritable jewel. It is written with an intellectual rigor combined with spiritual insights that is rare. Schulke’s mytho-poetic descriptions of thirteen different states of mind, the pathways, of approaching communicating with plants followed by descriptions of thirteen imaginary, themed gardens reads like the very best magic realism literature. The last parts of the book examines the historical, practical and ethical teaching and learning of the Green Art and helps to set the reader on a path. As an off grid, forest dweller and gardener, who wildcraft on a daily basis during the warm seasons, I found “Thirteen Pathways of Occult Herbalism” a shining meditation on the lived experience of phytognosis.
